Subtitles and audio

Choose a subtitle language once and Debrify loads it every time. Everything about how captions look, and what to try when sound misbehaves, is on the same page.

Pick a subtitle language

Default Subtitle is what Debrify loads without being asked. Two entries are not languages: No Preference loads nothing automatically, leaving you to choose in the player, and Off does not load subtitles at all.

Everything after that is a language, from English and Spanish through Hindi, Telugu, Japanese and Arabic. A matching Default Audio language picks the dub or the original track.

Make them readable

Subtitle Appearance, on the same page, has five controls:

• Size — Tiny through Giant, seven steps.
• Style — None, Outline, Shadow, Raised or Depressed. Outline is what keeps white text readable over a bright scene.
• Color — white, yellow, cyan, green, magenta, red, blue or orange.
• Background — None, Light, Medium, Dark or Solid. Solid is the most readable and the most intrusive.
• Font — the built-in faces, or one of your own.

When subtitles drift out of sync

Timing can be nudged in the player itself. Debrify also offers Auto-sync addon subtitles (experimental), which quietly aligns downloaded subtitles to the audio as you watch. It only acts on a confident match, anything you set by hand always wins, and it is off by default — it appears only on devices that can do the analysis.

Skip intros and credits

Skip intros & credits shows a button during supported intros and outros. Playback is never skipped automatically — you always press it yourself.

When audio will not play

Compatibility switches. Try one at a time, and restart playback after each — none take effect mid-video.

• Audio passthrough (AC3 · EAC3 · DTS core) — sends the original bitstream to your receiver instead of decoding it. Needs an HDMI chain that supports it; if you hear silence, turn it off.
• Multichannel audio (LPCM over HDMI) — outputs surround as 5.1/7.1 PCM where the receiver supports it, instead of stereo.
• Force stereo audio — always downmix to 2 channels whatever the TV reports. Try this if surround is noisy or distorted.
• Allow system audio effects — lets equalizer apps such as Wavelet or Dolby process playback.
• Use the previous audio engine — a fallback to the older output. It is silent when Dolby Atmos is enabled, so only reach for it if the current one misbehaves.

When the picture is wrong

Force software video decoding is the compatibility option for wrong colours or a blank picture. It is slower and 4K may stutter, so leave it off unless you need it. Applies from the next playback.

Good to know

• Open the player in portrait starts videos upright instead of turning the phone landscape. The player's rotate button still switches whenever you want.
• The same page chooses the player itself — Debrify Player, an External Player, or DeoVR on VR devices.
