Profiles, roles and PINs
A profile is one person's Debrify — their own home screen, watch history, preferences and access. Add one for everyone who uses the device, and decide for each what they can reach.
What it does
Each profile keeps its own watch history, Continue Watching, preferences and appearance. What it can reach is set separately — which pages appear, how it can search, and what it may do with your accounts.
Playback always works. Nothing you turn off stops a profile watching what it is allowed to see.
The three roles
A role is a starting point, not a cage. Everything it prefills can be changed afterwards.
- Admin — runs the device. Everything, including managing services and other profiles.
- Member — watches freely. Watches and downloads everything, changes nothing. Starts without the Cloud file pages.
- Kid — a curated corner. Only the shelves and channels you curate: no keyword search, no Live TV, no YouTube, no downloads or recording.
Two limits are fixed by the role and cannot be granted away: only an Admin can manage profiles, and a Kid can never manage connections, update the app, back up or restore, send a setup transfer, or see adult content. Everything else is a default you can change — a Member can be given the Cloud pages back, a Kid can be given Debrify TV.
Create a profile
Five short steps, each prefilled by the role you pick.
- Name them. A name and a look.
- Who is this for? Admin, Member or Kid — the preset everything else starts from.
- How can they search? By title in their catalogs, or plus keyword search across the profile's engines.
- Which pages can they open? Debrify TV, Stremio TV, Live TV, YouTube, Cloud files.
- Beyond watching? Download & record, Remote, and managing their own sources.
Start from my settings on the first step copies your appearance and player defaults, but never your accounts, history, downloads or paths. Nothing here is final — as the app puts it, presets prefill but never lock.
Choose the services and addons each profile gets
Those five steps decide which pages a profile sees. Which individual services, addons and engines it may use is set afterwards, in the full editor.
- Open Settings › Profiles and choose Edit profile.
- Go to the Access section — the ACCESS tab on a TV.
- Tick what this profile may use. Each group has All and None shortcuts.
The groups are Debrid & cloud, Addons (every Stremio addon, one by one), Trackers & lists, and Live TV & indexers, with Torrent engines listed separately above them. So one person can have your debrid account and a couple of addons while another gets the whole set.
- Torrent engines are per profile — each keeps an independent copy and its own settings. Install them in the Admin profile before assigning them.
- Granting a tracker or cloud connection lets that profile change the upstream account. A Trakt history is shared, not copied.
- A connection has an owner, and you can hand ownership to another profile. Everyone else keeps the access they had; the previous owner stays on as a borrower.
Set a PIN
A PIN keeps a profile private on a shared device. Optional, and set per profile.
- Open Settings › Profiles › Edit profile.
- Enter a PIN of 4 to 8 digits.
- Choose when it asks again — Lock when the app resumes, plus an Auto-lock delay of 5, 15 or 30 minutes, or 1 hour.
- Save. Debrify shows a recovery code once. Write it down.
If a PIN is forgotten
- On the PIN screen, choose Forgot PIN? and enter the recovery code. It removes the PIN so a new one can be set.
- No code saved? An Admin can clear it with Admin reset: remove PIN in that profile's editor.
- Too many wrong attempts locks the profile for a while. Wait and try again — nothing is lost.
Good to know
- Ask who's watching at startup shows the picker every time Debrify opens. Turn it off if you are the only one here.
- A profile can be disabled rather than deleted — it stops appearing but keeps everything.
- Send profiles to TV copies profiles, connections and PINs to another device.
- Debrify keeps at least one Admin who can manage profiles, and refuses a change that would leave none.
- The picker's look is set in Settings › Appearance › Profile Picker.
